Who is eligible for CA?

Hey you!
Yeah, the one googling “How to become a CA?” while secretly wondering if it’s too complicated. 😅

First of all—you’re not alone.
So many students (and even graduates) think about becoming a Chartered Accountant but have no idea where to start or if they even qualify.

So let’s talk. No boring technical stuff, just a real chat about CA eligibility.

Who is eligible for CA?

🎓 Step 1: Just Passed 12th? You’re Already Eligible!

If you’ve finished Class 12 (from any board), good news—you can start your CA journey right away.

All you need to do is:

  • Register for the CA Foundation Course through ICAI
  • Complete at least 4 months of study
  • And boom—you’re eligible to take the CA Foundation Exam

Doesn’t matter if you’re from Commerce, Science, or even Arts. If you’ve passed 12th, you can give it a shot.
(Though let’s be honest—Commerce background helps a bit with the basics.)

🎓 Step 2: Already Graduated? You Might Skip Foundation

Yup. If you’ve got a degree, you might not have to start from scratch.

Here’s how it works:

  • If you’re a Commerce graduate with 55%+, or
  • A Non-commerce graduate with 60%+, or
  • You’ve cleared CMA Inter or CS Executive

👉 You can directly register for the CA Intermediate Course (and skip Foundation altogether).
Kind of like a fast pass. 🎫

🧑‍💼 But Wait—What About the Articleship?

Ah yes, the famous 3-year articleship.
No matter which route you choose, you’ll eventually need to work under a practicing CA (aka real-world training). It’s intense, but honestly, that’s where most of the magic happens.

You learn how to audit, file taxes, handle clients… basically everything a real CA does.

🌍 Can International Students Do CA in India?

Yep, they can!
If you’re from outside India and have equivalent educational qualifications, ICAI lets you register too. You’ll have to follow the same process as Indian students, but it’s totally doable.

💬 Final Thoughts: Should You Do It?

Look, CA is tough. No sugar-coating it.
But it’s also rewarding as hell—financially, professionally, and even personally. You’ll grow, hustle, and probably cry a little along the way 😅… but once you become a CA, it’s all worth it.

So if you’re eligible—and a little crazy enough to take on the challenge—I say go for it.
